Hi - I'm hoping one of you can tell me the Wiley-Bugert number for this coin, and anything particularly of interest with that variety. There appears to be a die crack running from the "T" in "UNITED" down to the wing, and then continuing to the leg. Could this help identify the WB variety? There is tremendous weakness on the reverse around the claw on the left (as we face the Eagle), as well as the fletching on the end of the arrows. Since PCGS graded this MS64, apparently this is not wear, but a weakness in the strike. Does this WB variety have anything to do with that? https://images.PCGS.com/CoinFacts/1...85_Large.jpg

Don't ignore the possibility of a die clash.

Thanks While this is my first time here, I regularly participate on the PCGS U.S. Coin Forum. As such, can anyone share with me how I can "Thank" or "Like" a reply/comment?

Sorry, we do not have that function. Just reply with your thanks and quote what you are liking if necessary to avoid confusion.

I could tell you what the WB is but the link is not working for me. Can you post images of the obverse and reverse?

For some reason, it disappeared. Since it's been over 24 hours, I cannot edit it, but here's a new and different hotlink. Any help is greatly apprreciated. Once you click on the hotlink below, then click on the True View for an expanded, close up view. Thanks, Steve https://www.PCGS.com/cert/40981024

This is an easy one to identify since it is an 1854 Philadelphia. It is a WB-101, it is easy because there is only 1 WB for the 1854 P mint to date. Bill Bugert has not completed his die marriage books, he has done almost all mints and years but does not have 1853 to 1891 Philadelphia mint marriages completed. In his original half dollar encyclopedia he only lists one WB but does mention that there are 9 different die marriages as of that writing. The 9 marriages have not been designated and I am sure there will be many more once the final book is complete.
As to the die crack you mention, that looks like it might be a light scratch and not a die crack. There is some nice die clashing within the reverse shield and between the wings and the legs of the eagle. There is also some note worthy die lines between the dentils and "ITE" of United on the reverse. On the obverse there is some die cracks around stars 6, 7 & 8 and also a little crack off of the right arrow tip to the dentil. I also see a little doubling of the 8 (bottom loop) & 5 (inside loop) of the date. There are a few other items that I see but will wait until I can do more research.
I will research this one further to see if anyone has identified this marriage.

@Heymikep, thanks so very much. Here's a hotlink to another coin, but this one graded MS66 I see on PCGS CoinFacts. You'll now see a lot of commonalities to my MS64, including that die crack between the letter T in UNITED and the left wing as we face the Eagle (so that's probably not a crack). You'll see the same die marks/"file marks" between the dentils and ITE. Of importance to me, the 66 also has the same significant weakness on that left claw and fletchings on the arrows. I think you'll also see common clash marks. Other commonalities include on the obverse the diagonal mark going up from her hand towards stars 1 and 2, and the V shaped mark near her forearm holding the pole. The slight doubling in the 8 and 5 also appears identical. Your thoughts? https://images.PCGS.com/CoinFacts/8...555_2200.jpg

Yes, I would say that these are from the exact same die marriage. The mark that looks like a die crack that you mention is clearly a die clash, I can see it better with this coin. It is from the rock support of the obverse. I can see the die clashes on the obverse as well, the wingtip below Liberty's right arm and the edge of the wing near the rock support where the hand is holding the shield.
