This is a really weird coin. Right behind Abe"s eye is a huge growth. Do die chips get that large?

It is a 1973 s. The more I look at it, with the wear on it, I can't tel if it is raised or indented originally.

Looks like post mint damage. The color looks like it was subjected to acid, similar to soldering flux.

Rockdude, I would agree with you except for the fact(which the picture doesn't show well) the outline and edges of the blemish are definitely consistent with all of the surrounding wear suggesting it is part of the original minting. As I said, this is a really weird looking coin. It may be a combination of a minting error and post mint damage. Weird!

Does it look like a lamination problem?

It is not lamination. I think there was originally a raised area there(like a die chip)then corrosion , like someone decided to try to remove the raised area. No separation or layering like you usually see with lamination.

That's a piece of candy stuck to the coin look at the red around it. I don't think it's lamination that's for sure and I don't think it's post mint damage it's candy damage. I came across plenty cents with candy on them and it looks like it probably from halloween some kid got a cent in his bsg and ate candy and got a piece stuck on the cent
