Was told it was due to a warped die, dont ask me how I do not know. Thus it means it is a mint error however seem to be quite common almost 10% of this year is like this maybe to varying degrees, also notice that these where release later and not at start in 2018. It is metal - my memory of what was said on Facebook is hazy now but if the die isn't produced properly it can have weaknesses. I don't think it's oil/grease as the letters are still struck up okay, but I'm not sure.
