My wife found this for me the other day. I just glanced at it, saw it was still a nice grade, and set it aside. I took a good look with the loupe before I 2X2'd it today. I saw this "chunk" on the seam between the ring and the insert.

Is it just squished access material from the strike? We know the toonie starts as 2 pieces before the strike, so I'm tending to think this.

I only have 2 other examples of this coin, 1 shows the same anomaly, though not as well. The other nothing. Nothing is odd on the obverse on all 3.

If it is just access material from the strike, how come it seems to be released at the same point on both coins? I would think it should be random.

Maybe someone else can check their coins.

It's a small Die Chip.

A Cud is a die break that involves the rim.
