Hello, Found this Indian Head penny coin roll hunting. Date is 18X8? Is this a metal detecting find considering the condition? Or is it just an unknown that would cause this damage. Any other comments are welcome. Thanks for your time

In all likelihood a dug coin, agree. Just worth face value in this condition.

Damage makes me cringe, but I like to think more of the age if you can see it. History of the coin makes it a fun find. That also let's me know they are out there as well.

Some coin shops will have these badly beat-up examples in bins for 25 to 50 cents each.

It does like like one of the many dug IH's I've released to the wild.
