Do you guys have the king/queen or britania side of your pennies on the front of your 2x2s?
Do you also keep both types of the more modern no 'BRITT:OMN' and with 'BRITT:OMN' coins?

Convention suggests that it should be the obverse, but that doesn't mean much to the collector.
My son has a type set of British Shillings Charles 11 - Elizabeth 11. The obverse is of prime importance in this set.
I have a type set of British Florins Victoria - Elizabeth 11. The reverse is of greater importance to me.

A full British type set should include all types of legends (and alloys, where there in no change in design.

If you are doing date sets, the side showing the date is the most important.

U.S. States Quarters are a different example; it is the reverse that is the reason for this series to be collected.

Convention is the reverse is at the front of a 2x2 as a lot of the time it has the year as well (though through a lot of the 1800s the year was on the obverse).

I usually show the year towards the front, unless the coin is a one of commemorative, then I would show the reverse.

I put whichever side is the most eye-appealing. :)

Thanks for the advice, I think I will mostly do the year on the front except in cases of commemoratives.

The reason I ask is because I want some sort of uniformity.

It's been interesting to follow the responses, since I an NOT a UK collector, but I do have some collecting themes where the "obverse" is not necessarily the most interesting side of the coin.

Always learning!
