Think of it like this. Details coins will always be easy to buy and hard to sell. The only way they sell is at a discount. However this particular coin has a slight bit more leeway because straight graded $10 Bust Eagles are pretty scarce and smoothed is more preferable to some people than cleaned or scratched.

I agree, if there was a details coin I had to buy this one would probably be one of the best choices. Even though it is detailed, it's still an attractive coin, and isn't as badly detailed as a hole /polishing/scratch would be

Price for grade less 50%.
with GrapeCollects comments.

Not keen on spending this much on ebay, unless you personally know the seller and their reputation.

The seller eternitycoin is quite reputable. Though I have not bought from him I know of him. He does have an email address you could contact him at and likely arrange for a lower price.

The same coin sold on Heritage for $3055 in June 2013, and again for $2880 in September 2019, if that helps. Heritage calls it "thoroughly whizzed".

Why would you whizz a known highly valuable coin?
At the point of a possible sale, it is always going to be very closely examined.

You may never get another opportunity to buy another capped bust Half Eagle, but that is OK.
There are plenty of other interesting coins to consider at the same value level. Just be ready for these other unique opportunities, when they come up.

I am into ancients and I will consider a tooled coin, if the price is right, because almost all ancients have had some sort of cleaning up, after recovery.

Is it odd that nowhere on the coin they state the value?
