I'm calling this the tree reverse because gosh darn it looks like a tree next to Montecello!

So much so that I really thought it was a new reverse die.

Is it a retained internal Cud? Or something closer to the "extra corn ear" quarters.

I leave it to the experts.

The term " Cud" is used when the die break involves the rim. What you have is a RIDB..retained internal die break and a neat one at that...time for the gardeners to trim the tree...

Edited: Opps...Tanman2001 is correct IDB...my bad

Thank you Greasy Fingers! I'm not really all that familiar with this aspect, and all could think of was " Cud".

Now I know!

That area seems prone to die breaks, I've seen on lot in that exact spot. This one is especially large though, fun find.

Technically this just an IDB (Interior Die Break), it is not retained. The broken piece of the die completely fell out, the die did not hold or retain it, so the struck metal could form to the empty space.
