A friend has the following medal but is not sure what it is. We think it's silver but we don't what purity it is. Can someone tell me what the silver content is and a possible value.

Thanks in advance

Can you please take properly cropped, in-focus photos of both the back and front. I really cant tell much from these pictures. Also, is there anything on the edge?

Thanks for the reply norantyki.

He has sent me the following images. Which he found on the internet, as his phone is not very good and he's unable to take better pictures. I asked him what website he got the photos from but he can't remember! I have had a quick look via image search which confirms their silver but I can't find the silver content

I found a seller giving the following details:
silver, weight 5.30 g and diameter 22.47 mm. I could not find the purity. Often the purity is shown on the edge. On German medals this is mostly 900, 990 or 1000. I do not know if this is the case for Eas German medals like this one. My guess would be a purity of 900.

Although @Eligius is largely correct (Bund Rep DL also employed .800 in medalic strikes), the DDR used anything from .625 to .900AR. This being said, the date and toning would indicate to me .800-.900 on this one. There is usually an edge marking with both a serial no. and purity (why I asked initially).
