So this will be the first of many more posts like it FYI. I've been wanting to get into collecting circulated coins with errors. The problem is I think I see errors with just about every coin I look at. I'm smart enough to know that's obviously not the case. Soooooo.....I've decided that my only option is to bug the daylights out of some nice folks like you guys for a while until I get the hang of it. .

I've also considered throwing some of them on ebay or coin auction site and setting the starting bid at face value and let that speak for itself. Before I could even try this idea out, I ran into a problem: I haven't the foggiest clue how to "properly" clean the ones that are too dirty not to because the consensus seems to be - don't (hence the photos below ). So here I am...... Help?

One last thing, please be patient with me as I do NOT know the lingo or what I'm talking about at all. The good news for you guys is that I at least know this lol. Sorry for the "less-than" photos, it's the best I can do with what I have.

to CCF. First off, what are you seeing as a possible error? You need to also know that there is a difference between an error and a variety. If you plan on posting coins on ebay and on here for that matter, you will need to improve your pic taking skills a bit...WADR=with all do respect.
Now for the big one...Never Clean Coins.

welcome to this great forum, there are a lot of people here to help you and me and I thank them. It will help them if you put arrows in the area that you question on your coins. good luck on your hunt

Your cent is suffering from zinc rot. No amount of "cleaning" would remove it as it is a permanent staining/metal disease that will eventually eat your entire coin (no kidding), which leads to: NEVER clean your coins. Even regular tap water has minerals than could affect your coin. If you *must* remove dirt, use only distilled water and allow to air dry. Never rub your coin with anything, including your fingers (which have oils that can permanently mark the surface of your coin).

Back to your cent, what sort of error(s) are you seeing? If you make us guess, we always guess wrong. Your photos are great, but please always show us close-ups of areas in question. That really helps us.

to the CCF! We look forward to seeing what else you have to ask us about!

p.s. I know this is difficult to hear just staring out, but not every coin is an error coin. But, if in doubt, ask us We really don't mind and are happy to help!
