Been pondering this one for a bit. Other than the look of the UNUM, it would mostly seem that DDR-003 and DDR-008 are pretty much the same.

Maybe the die crack by VDB is a bit different, but there seem to be a mix and match set of markers.

This coin has none of the reverse die cracks noted on VV for either coin, but shows a marker on the lower right wheat clearly visible in the images for DDR-003 (see pic with arrow). It also has no die crack near VDB, but has the die crack across the hair that seems to be visible, and the same crack, for both DDR-003 and DDR-008. It matches very well to DDR-003 which is clearly shown on VV.

There are also two very distinct markers on the PLURIBUS, which match perfectly to DDR-008 but only the marker on the U is visible on DDR-003 (the R marker appears to be there just bad lighting for it).

So which is it? I remain unsure, and honestly just maybe they are the same die.

I believe this to be DDR-008.

The doubling on 008 seems to be more rigid and less uniform, just like this coin, compared to 003. The M in UNUM seems to flow to the outer side, rather than the inner like 003.

They are extremely similar, but my guess is on DDR-008.

I agree with SC about it being 008. That MM position is really close for both.

The chips on the RU (PLURIBUS) match well and the crack in the right wheat you point out isn't in the same location on 003. On DDR-003 the crack is more towards the middle on the seeds/kernels and your image shows the one on your coin going up the outside wheat line.

The first dot (between E P) looks like the one on 008 better than 003 as well.

For those wanting to follow along here are the links to them both.

Running around right now, but quick note. The little die crack thing my arrow points to is on the DDR-003 image. The marker is the die crack, but look closely and you will see that little thing on the VV image as well.

Hmmm.... I see what you mean, especially with the MM placement being so close. I'll have to look a little closer myself tonight, but meanwhile ...

The die crack in the hair towards the top does look to be in the same location on 008 and 003 (VV images aren't really clear for 008). But the die crack on 008 looks "different". 008 seems to look a little more jagged (not as smooth an arc as 003).

Which of the images on VV do you think shows the earlier die state? (To me 008 looks a slightly earlier strike)

I wonder if that little marker on the outside right wheat could be on a working hub?

I thought the same thing. The MM was almost perfect.

As you stated Bats, that little piece of metal is definitely on DDR-003, so I'm kind of stuck. However as you said, there does seem to be missing markers from DDR-003 as well. The flow of the spreading doesn't perfectly match DDR-003 though.

The dots on EPU aren't smooth. As you can see, they go in the direction of northeast it seems. The photos on VV of DDR-003 are much more uniform, and don't spread towards upper east. DDR-008 however does have that spread, and matches the dots on your pictures.

So basically my thought process is:

Could be DDR-003 as it has the little piece of metal on the right stalk.

Could be DDR-008 as the dots on the EPU are the exact same spread, unlike on DDR-003.

This is a very tricky coin.
