to CCF. Being in the grading section the new member might want to know the grade. I am not good at grading but looks like an AU-58 maybe a MS60? John1

Looks like a nice Nic...a little circulation rub/wear...but no major gashes or gouges in the fields. Looks like a nice strike...but not sure if it makes full steps...they seem to fade to the lower left. I'm with John AU58-MS60. Pretty good pics for 1st time posting! Keep em coming! smat

Thanks for the quick replies! I'm not a collector, just a person that has realized I know very little about this space and came across this nickel while emptying out the coin jar.
My wife was looking for a "silver" coin for a New Year's bread loaf and I came across this (a Greek tradition). Was looking for dimes and quarters actually and this stood out among the 1940's nickels that I came across. Interestingly, there were 8-10 nickels from that era and zero dimes or quarters...that got me thinking about probabilities and led me down the path of a little internet research.
I did find one 1964 quarter in my coin bin...so that was lucky...and then there was this nickel, which was easily the cleanest.
How would one go about getting this to someone who enjoys the hobby? Does it need to get certified by one of the grading standards groups or is that sort of a waste of time?
Thanks!

Not worth professional grading. Keep it and start a new hobby for yourself, or give it to a youngster and get them started. John1

Well whatever you do don't spend it or give it back to the bank . In this condition it is a collector coin but value is not that much .

Since it is showing some circulation wear, and you found it in circulation, it cannot be "fresh" from the mint or as collectors refer to it as...Mint State (MS) or uncirculated. it is one level below that or commonly referred to as Almost Uncirculated (AU). It also seems to be towards the higher end of AU so the number attached to AU would be 58...so your coin would grade as an AU58 (subjective). grades 60 and above to the highest of 70 are associated with MS coins.
Welcome...get a folder and start collecting...you have about 80 years of Nickels to acquire...get a move on.

Good stuff...thank you...now at least I have some context to collect/enjoy a find. And by collect, I probably mean "set aside" and forget that I did so.
Pretty interesting hobby, I'm sure...can always use something else to learn about these days....thank you for your patience and sincere feedback. Expert advice is always respected!
