Abe's been knife fighting again. NGC gave it the $5.00 green light special "genuine" within 40 minutes which susurprised me. My impression is damaged Fine details obverse VF reverse. These are sellers pics When I get this in hand will soak it and load pics. Last post of 2020 for me; happy new year coincommunity!

Weak obverse strike, but it might make VF details largely based on the reverse. Nice die pair #2, and a decent looking coin despite the rim issues. And a perfect use of the NGC preliminary review on ebay!

VG details (rim knocks). Shame.

Next time Abe goes knife fighting tell him to use a common coin that's not worth much!

i agree with NGC in that the damage would not permit a grade on this one but then again it is a 22P

NGC didn't say that a details grade couldn't be assigned. For $5 they just provided an opinion on authenticity, a preliminary grading opinion wasn't requested.

I agree its likely non grade genuine and a hole filler for low grade set so no need sending it in. Its a good example for showing beginner's the 22 plain strong reverse and a 1922 no D weak reverse, 22 D weak D and normal. When I show people in hand the 6 distinct dies a light goes on and they get it. Still looking for a 1922 no D weak reverse coattails die # 4 in a high enough grade to slab with NGC or PCGS. Have seen only one ever and was in the Heritage archives - bidders knew exactly what it was and believe it was 900 + buyers fee for a vivid VF die # 4 no D. Love hate relationship I have with them as the last couple years realized the no D's weak reverses are very scarce but far from rare. Now the cadillac die # 2 I never stop oooing and awwing, hammered $189.50 $2.00 higher someone else would have it. Steep for a ruined 22 D but I liked the reverse and date area my slabbed one is only VG10 and missing - better to say likely never had good details. Will update when I get it soaked in acetone. Thanks for your input.

Don't know what a coattails die is, but here's a 1922 no d weak reverse I recently purchased. Plan to send in to NGC. Perhaps CAM can assess which die it is from.

@jimbucks, that's not a coattails, but a nice example of die pair #3.

jimbucks your coin has some punch to it on both obv and reverse. Any time I see that much hair and ear along with a clear mushy motto on obv paired with a reverse showing rim between left wheat stalk I get excited. My excitment gets me basement grading and your coin in my unsolicited opionion is VF and high up in the VFishness zone. Look up old forum posts on the 1922 ragged coattails die # 4 weak D. Forum members have shown, explained, and literally broken down in detail all variants of die numbers for this excellent year. I agree with Zurie yours is die # 3 and an excellent original straight grade example, good eye buying that one.
