I just successfully finished searching $1,250.00 worth of dimes in the course of 4 days (on top of searching a few hundred in nickels), each one searched thoroughly and this is just one of the many random oddities I pulled out.

I was curious if someone may know what happened here.

Can't help you with any explanation for your coin, but just wanted to congratulate you on your patience and great eyesight to be able to go through 12,500 dimes! That would be a great accomplishment for me in a lifetime, never mind 4 days.

Once while roll-hunting I found a 5 cent coin with a similar variety. I am not sure what the cause would be. The nearest error-type is a collar clash, but this is way down in the field of the coin.

Maybe a minor collar scar?
