From the looks of it, it seems to be an early die state example of a fairly large die break.
Out of all the George VI nickels I've had pass through my hands I have never seen one like this. Looks minor at first until you realize that this goes around about 90% of the obverse. After the "X" in "REX" (damage on right side of X) the die cracks disappear somewhat and return on the "D" of "IND" and on "IMP".
