Hey folks! Sorry to bother you. Was at the bar having a beer and a older man came in and was buying his drinks with half dollars. I gave him face value and he gave me $40 and this coin has to be DDR. I been looking and comparing to Coops picture of MD and DD. This is DD isn't it? Hope the pics are ok and thank you for your time once again.

it looks like Machine Doubling to me as well. The letters are shadowed by flat, shelf-like doubling, all to the West, that reduces the size. If it were a true doubled die, you would see a rounded extension of the letter and notching at the serifs. The coin also has damage on the obverse that looks it's from a wrapping machine. The ring was most likely caused when the crimping jaws of the machine made contact with the surface as it rotated.

It's really interesting that the bar patron was using half dollars to buy his drinks! He must have been a lot lighter when he left the bar, $40 in half dollars would weigh about two pounds!

Were any of the coins silver or silver clad?

@Yokazuna he carried them in a crown royal bag and was very light when he left. No silver. Alot of 1971 and 1974 half dollars. I was still happy with the exchange. I still havent looked through all of them. I'm saving the 1971s for last. I was guessing the damage was from the ment roller. I hate those coins. Ruined in my eyes.

Ok so MD is shelf like and is not separate of the doubling and DD you should see some type of separation and not shelf like?
He was in today at the bar with Susan's and I got a few from him. He laughed and said he is hunting silver and just goes to the bar with the "normals" instead of going back to the back.

This DD is confusing and not simple for the untrained eye. Needs to be more like "rifle, enemy, shoot."

Due to their size, half dollars are more prone to Machine Doubling. For some dates of the 1970s it's tougher to find an example without Machine Doubling.

@nick10 Thanks on the info. Definitely useful. Will expect MD before DD and take a better look. Thank you for your time
