Not sure if this is in the right category or forum.

With some help and motivations from T-BOP several months ago, I decided start a consistent looking circulated Walking Liberty set. High graded coins for this set would be out of the question for me.

Just looking for between G and VF straight grade (no damaged or detailed) examples. As close to melt as possible. Key dates much more unfortunately!

This is probably sacrilegious in the coin collecting world but I pulled a couple of higher grade walkers (I previously had) out of the album and replaced them with lesser grades, to make the set look consistent. A BU with tones of luster next to a dull well circulated VG example, is just not eye appealing to me.

Have any of you ever done this before? Yes I know, it's all about personal preference, what you like and makes you happy. Just wondering how out of the ordinary this might be.

I do the same. My "pretty lady walking in the sunshine" is VG-AU, with majority being VG-VF.

Not every coin collection needs to be Mint State! Here is mine.

I tend to agree that the set would look more uniform if they all were approximately the same grade and condition .
My WLH set is in a loose leaf binder and unfortunately consists of every grade from G-06 to MS-64+. But like you say their all original no problem coins . As many dealers have told me , buy the nicest coin that you can afford and be happy what you have put together .

Yes - It just looks better to have an album with coins of the same grade/condition.

Great looking set!
I also attempt to keep grades close (for each type) in my 19th century type set.

I would rather have a low to mid grade complete set than a high grade set with dogs in the key date holes.

Great looking set of Walkers MOS! I prefer the balanced look myself. I have the Dansco album that I'm slowly upgrading the long short set ('34 up) to AU and mostly MS. All the seconds are rotated down to the 2 volume Library of Coins albums that are all circulated.
I'm also slowly putting together a Morgan dollar set in Dansco albums all circulated for the balanced look. This one will take forever....
Call it OCD or whatever, but I can't stand an MS64 and AG03 side by side...
