This one has me stumped, so many variations and the reverse is nearly gone. Any help identifying greatly appreciated. Weight 2.49 grams.

I'm not sure I can tell from the pics that this is Peru, vs Mo Mexico or TS Bolivia or NG Guatemala or DA Chile.

What are you seeing to ID it to ME Lima?

I saw one on pineintrest images labeled Peru Lima, it was the only close match with the III. running clock wise down lower forehead and nose.

Looking a little closer, that it has the III on the right side by DEI instead or behind his head after CAROLUS. On the reverse, there is the larger size of the crown and it's higher placement. I'd bet this is from Spain (Madrid).

At 2.5g, I guess this is more nickel than dime sized and is the 1R. A 1/2 R is more at 1.5g.

I agree with collects82, Colonials would have a straight line at the top of the shield.

Fascinating, a small collection of German Empire, British, and what not South Americans were offered me at 2 × spot probably all their worth but very interesting to look at. Apparently several South American coins were minted in USA. The lot was from a career military man who bought them in Germany in the 1980's perhaps the Spanish origin? It is more the size of a nickel than a dime.

Agree with collects82: Spain uses CAROLUS on the left half of the obv. Colonies use CAROLUS III.

This CoinArchives search on 1782 1/2 real makes it pretty clear https://www.coinarchives.com/w/resu...&results=100.
This is a 1/2 real of Spain (which shows pinterest attributions are not so reliable)

tdziemia, collector82 - spot on much thanks would have taken me who knows how long to figure this out. I stay away from these out of my ignorance of foreign issued but this one was so cool. 1782 was a rough period for Europe am sure this coin was privy to it.
