Poor little wheat. I have one that looks identical to that. Literally. Even has the major gash on the edge below the date. Mine has a story behind it so it now has sedimental value. It was one of my first wheat pennies I ever found in early 2008 at an airport. I barely just started collecting and searching my change when I popped out that old beat up puppy I got back from the cashier at Omaha International Airport in Omaha NE. I originally thought I found a 1909
Wheat penny as it had the look of one, but the 3rd digit was simply a 4 reduced to a dot from damage which took me years to find out. After getting curious about it in 2011 I whipped it out again and checked the shoulder. VDB was visible. So it had to be a 1949 plain. As the relief of the bust matched the relief of a
Wheat penny from the 40's. Whereas a 1929 wheat or 1919 wheat had a lower relief of the bust. I still have that
Wheat penny and I'm not selling or spending it even if offered $1000 for it XD. If this is one of or is your first wheat you found. Keep that puppy. Years from now when your collection is massive you'll look back on this beat up sad looking wheat and remember this as the one coin that started it all!! Happy Hunting!
