I've been seeing scary examples of counterfeits in the past years where they are almost perfect. One the one hand, it is horrible in terms of the amount of fakes circulating among collectors. On the other hand, there are exonumia coins being produced with that high level of accuracy. I gave in and bought a 1964 Peace dollar, as I'm not expecting to buy a real one any time soon. There are also very high quality repros of pattern coins. In my opinion, the 64 Peace dollar is the only one I'm willing to get. How do you feel in terms of repros of mystical coins such as patterns and the '64? Does anyone else have any or have I brought shame to the community?

Having a fantasy '64 Peace dollar is the only way you'll ever see one, so can't blame you for that!

In my collection I have a counterfeit braided hair Half Cent. It was a portion of a collection I bought and since it's the only counterfeit I've run across I 2x2d it and kept it.

For a beautiful fantasy Peace dollar Search - "Daniel Carr 1964 Peace dollar". High quality, 1964 dated, that are over-struck on existing Peace dollars. Hard to find though if you want to own one......

Actually the Denver mint produced a little over 300,000
But they were all (?) destroyed.

EDIT: Heres a link

There were 1964 Peace dollars minted but were supposedly ALL melted by the mint before being released.
I believe an original example if possessed would be illegal. They say there may be some out there but who wants to brag about one and lose it and possibly be charged with a crime?
I guess from that link in the above post, a couple surfaced but they too got destroyed.
Since none actually ever made it out of the mint, and all were melted, then they really are not counterfeits, they are "Fantasy Coins".
There are inexpensive ones and expensive ones.

The only Carr item I have is the toughest of the 1964 D Peace dollar varieties he produced.
I sent it to ANACS and they graded it MS69 which is pretty much up there near top pop I guess.
