Didja ever run across 2 auction sites that have the same coin (same date, condition, etcetc) you've been in the market for but whose auctions end at basically the same time? And just to hedge your bets, you bid on both thinking if you get outbid on one, you'll still be in the running for the other?

And then you end up winning both. Not that that's a bad thing if it's a bucket lister or soemthing, so having duplicate coins isn't necessarily a bad thing. Still, this happened to me twice before I wised up.

Lessons learned: 1. Bid on one and take your lumps either way. 2. Never bid more than you can absorb on the possibility you might win both auctions. 3. If you're gonna own duplicate coins, make sure they're bucket listers or something along those lines, like higher-grade coins you're more than happy to own two of and perhaps break even on if you sell one of the two.

:)

An embarrassment of riches!

I would enjoy them both for a short while, then re-sell whichever I am less enamored of ... freeing up funds for my next purchase!

You would be kicking yourself if you lost the one, and the other sold for cheap. I would bid on the one you like better, and put a lowball bid on the other. That way you could more easily break even if you sell the second.

Its a "crap shoot" ... I tend to cover my bets if I want a certain coin and then either sell one or enjoy both

I never bid on anything in auctions. A long time ago I met someone that was a plant a those things. His job was to bid on stuff to get the prices up. After that I never bid on anything.

I bid on ebay, but not on big ticket stuff. I entertain high cost items at local coin shops I have a relationship with and trusted sellers at coin shows.

One thing I pay more attention to on ebay is the quality of photography--along with the seller's reputation and any past experiences I've had with said seller. I just don't bother bidding/buying when the item's photography is poor. And, I don't buy from anyone using stock photos.

One always has to be better than the other, so resell the worse one
