Camera shy no matter what I use on it coin refuses to disclose any eye appeal for my or sellers camera. I was hesitant, seller recommended giving the coin an in hands going over I have and am pleased but not the way it photographs. Overall opinions of coin solicited. Pics taken head on and with camera at angle.

Different pics and camera angles will not help this coin.

I'm somewhere between AG-03 and G-04 details (cleaned).

G-4 Straight grade seems right to me, I don't see any evidence of cleaning

IMO there plenty of rim so I'd call it G-04.
And I think that with the parallel scratches it's been cleaned.

Really marginal eye appeal; not sure better photos would help.
What's going on with the mintmark? Usually mint marks on low-grade Barbers remain pretty clear. On this coin it looks both faint and distorted. If PCGS called it a '96-S it must be legit, but this feature reduces the appeal even more, IMO.
Desirable key date coin of course, in any grade.

Very curious about the grade for sure. I wouldn't pay anywhere near G-04 money for this

The parallel scratches are circulation scratches IMO, they are extremely common among heavily circulated coins(and less so XF/AU coins) and are not necessarily indicative of cleaning. The lighting can also make them appear more pronounced than they actually are.

Android photos do seem to bring out and amplify the worst in some coins.
That's a good thing sometimes.
Rest in Peace

AG-03 is the most I can squeeze out of this coin . It does not look cleaned to me .

If I wanted a solid "Good" example of this rare date for my collection, I wouldn't even give this a second look.

knowing which coins you would personally own is always of great assistance to me in my pursuit of grade opinions. Thank you.

I ask sincerely that, if you have not already done so, go to Heritage Auctions (www.HA.com), register for free, and then search their extensive database of sold coins for similar examples with prices realized and great pics of both sides.

IMHO, this one would be a tough sell on a bourse floor. My first reaction was AG-03, but I could see it being slabbed at G-04. I just couldn't see G-04 money on a bourse floor. It's definitely a brutal date to find in any grade, but there are solid G-04 examples out there with much better eye appeal.

i agree with some of the comments. I think it would pull a G4 but the overall eye appeal would not warrant those $$
