Leopold II gold Specimen Pattern 100 Francs 1880 SP62 PCGS, Brussels mint, KM-X8b (Rare), Bogaert-1211B1 (AU). A very rare Pattern, one of the most elusive of the entire Belgian series, struck with the same design as the silver issue of the same year but in a gold format. According to the Unusual World Coins guide "fewer than 10 pieces are known to exist", with this offering representing one of these few, sharply struck, with a distinctive medallic appearance to the planchet. A very rare opportunity to acquire an example of this elite type.

That reverse (?) is amazing! I love the female figure (Liberty perhaps?) and the lion. And I love how the building sort of fades away into the rim!

As a side note, Aernout lists 3 varieties (8 rays [mintage unknown, most common type], 12 rays [mintage 35], 15 rays [mintage 7]) - so one could build a type set ;)
