1992 D Cent - Bubbling?

Here is a 1992-D cent I found coin roll hunting. There is a crater right where the mint mark is. It also looks a little bubbled up around the perimeter of the cratered area. Also, there is another slightly bubbled area at the left base of the "2" that is opening up ever so slightly. If this is an error, and not just damage, I am not familiar with it. I need a little help. Can someone explain? Thank you.

The zinc is corroding underneath the copper plating.

Think of it like a piece of steel corroding underneath a layer of paint and the blisters that form. The difference is that the electrochemistry of the copper and zinc couple makes the zinc corrode even worse. It doesn't take much to get zinc to oxidize/corrode anyway once it is exposed to the environment.
