Found this silver colored penny in a parking lot. It's dated 2020 D. It is not magnetic so not steel and weighs 2.6 grams. With a magnifying glass I can see what I think is very thin areas of copper coloring around the top edges on both sides The side of the coin is silver colored all the way around. Has this coin been treated with something? Couldn't find where there were any issued like this last year?

If you found it in a parking lot then chances are it has been run over and kicked around scraping the copper plating off of it and exposing the zinc core (silver color)

I think you are seeing the zinc below the thin copper plating. It looks in the photos you provided us to be the case. Cents since mid 82 are copper plated with zinc cores. The zinc is is the silver-ish grey colour found under the copper coating.

Yes something or someone dissolved the copper plating I think showing the zinc underneath as you all say. Don't think the copper was knocked off from the parking lot though, the coin isn't banged up. Thank you all for your insight.
