I was Rolling a set of quarters to take back to the bank,. when this quarter caught my eyes. I'm aware that they're proof silver quarters for this year from San Francisco, but I'm not sure about the Philadelphia mint. Can someone please help, will appreciate. javascript:insertsmilie(' ')

Electroplating can be done with micrograms of metal, the cost is virtually nothing. Even still, it might be a metal other than silver.
These used to be included in sets with the same coin electroplated in gold as well as colorized, it isn't illegal to do as long as it's not done with fraudulent intent.

I know they sold some of these plated sets on tv back when they came out, both gold and silver (I am sure they left out the part that they were just plated). Plus, high school chemistry classes still do plating as part of their classes. I am surprised there aren't more of these that pop up.
