Good afternoon I came across this 1986 LMC and have looked and looked to see if I can find any copper with no luck.. Working with metal everyday it really just looks like zinc.. Any thoughts ?

Yep, it's zinc. Looks like its been environmentally striped of it's copper layer. Yhe mottled blotchy appearance leads me to this conclusion. May have been buried at some point in it's life (in my opinion).

To start, I would weigh it.

Interesting. To be honest, I don't know how to tell if a circulated coin was struck without plating or if it was removed afterward.

The copper plating adds virtually no weight to the coin.

Just a curiosity idea.
Considering the bubbling on a lot of these coins, it seems to me that it would be easy to heat one up and have the copper cladding flake right off.

Zinc melts before copper.

Problem with this coin is I cant really tell if it was stripped or not from the pictures. The surface looks roight in the picture but I vould be wrong. Most likely stripped. Stripped or unplated would be underweight.

Usually if it were plated over the copper, these years would show roughness because of the zinc under the plating:

The fields should be smooth.
