Good morning CoinCommunity!

I stumbled on this coin this morning. I have grown accustomed to seeing plenty of plating separation on the Zincolns above the letters of IGWT on the obverse and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on the reverse, but I've never seen it like this. There is some obvious plating separation above the letters in IGWT, but this one has some kind of doubling inside the bottom half of IGWT, around the top of Lincoln's head, as well as some strange separation on the right side of the date, and on the letters of LIBERTY. Is this all plating separation? There is also what looks like extra thickness on the shadow of the column to the right of Lincoln in the memorial on the reverse. I would like to confirm it so I can put it in a 2x2 and include it in my training album. Thanks in advance!

It is a common split plating doubling seen on modern cents and does not carry a premium above the face value.

But this is not a split plating issue. This is DDD. (Die-Deterioration-Doubling) As the die ages, the die wear on the single squeeze dies affect the fields in the direction of the closest rims. Because the devices are a lower profile, it affects the fields. Unlike the die wear of the past, which had the higher profile, it affected the devices and then the fields.
DDD:

Note the direction of the die wear. Right side of coin to the right. Left side of the coin to the left as those are the closest rims.
On the older dies we see the devices affected first.

Thus we see as the die ages, the extreme die wear patterns:

Note how the devices are moving.

That was an incredibly well written explanation. I'm screenshotting it for reference if that's alright with you. Thank you so much! It also explains some things that I have seen on Wheat Cents but never got around to asking about. Wxcellent.

Not a problem. All my images are always posted to be used again as needed. Screen shot is the best way to down load. All the information is there and edited by software. You may make two of three images editing this into pages. I see you added more images. There are some with split plating, but the obverse one is showing DDD.

To complete your questions..On the reverse in regards to the columns..that's just part of the design to give the image a true 3-d look. You will see 4 columns are "shaded" like that.

To show the rows of columns behind those four rows, giving it a 3-D affect.
