I was given this coin but I am having trouble identifying it. It's pictured next to a uk £2 coin. Can anyone help?

@gavv, first welcome to CCF. Second, I'm going to move your thread over to our ancients subforum to get some eyeballs on it, although I have my doubts of it being a Roman coin. In the meanwhile, can you please post the weight of this piece? Thx.

It does look like it's from (somewhere in) the Aes Grave series, if real (which it might not be). I'm not sufficiently familiar with the series in question to identify it any further.

Your coin purports to be a Roman Republic bronze, we will need a size in mm and a weight in grams to give us and idea which type it might be and help to determine if genuine or not.

@j1m, I was thinking that the Aes Grave with the prow on one side had Janus on the other, but I certainly could be wrong.

It seems to be a match-ish for the tressis (3 asses) in here. I still don't think it's real, though; those huge multiples are really rare.
