Sorry about the full coin shots looking Crummy. The coin's are still in the Mint Holder and my Scope is not good at snapping SHINY stuff . Should I bust out the Nickel or let it be ?

Maybe string struck thru. No real reason to take it out. Unless you want to give the coins an acetone bath, then replace them.

Nice error find in a proof set - I'd leave the set intact.

Thread and grimy grease. (Thus the texture on the affected area.) String would be a lot larger and doesn't bend as sharply as thread.

From the beginning of time, what humans have valued above all else is forbidden fruit. A mint director, reinforced by a bevy of underlings, forbade that fruit. Do not, I'd advise, bake your find into an apple pie. Leave all of its sins in place.
