I have trying for a while to fill out an 1858 specimen set. I picked this one up in the recent Heritage Auction (photos from Heritage). 1858 Five Cent, Plain Edge, Large Date in PCGS SP-63.

PCGS has only graded six as Large Date, while ICCS has seven, probably some of which are the same coins. This one has date RP2, as shown in Charlton. It seems to me that Large Dates are simply re-punched dates with offset, rather than different sized digits, but I do not have the coin in hand yet to be certain.

Beautiful coin... I bet the bluish toning is more vibrant in hand.

Got this coin in today's mail. I am very pleased with it. The Heritage photos do not do the luster any justice at all. It is nearly a cameo. Under graded by a point I think, probably because of the toned fields. PCGS tends to favor white coins IMO.
