I would like to hear from you as to whether you know why Vietnamese aluminum coins would be expensive.

I bought a 1975 and 1976 coin sets. I was surprised by the price tag especially when they were made of aluminum.

Hence, my question here. Hopefully someone could help with answering my question.

Many thanks for your time and answering in advance!

Depends what 1975 and 1976 Vietnamese aluminum coins you are talking about.
I have seen aluminum circulation coins for Vietnam in the lowest priced dealers' World coin junk boxes.

You mention coin sets for those dates.
I suspect that they are proof piedfort essais.

@sei_69I, They are not proof piedfort essais.

They are issued by Vietnamese Trade Bank with two different sets of coins.

1976 coins are actually issued in 1978 but carries the year 1976.

Your local coin shop must be good to have world coin junk boxes. Not at mine.

I am debating whether I should go to the coin show this weekend or not because of COVID-19, I am not 100% confident.

I'm fortunate, being about 15 minutes away from two coins shops--each with reasonably full foreign coin bins. I go through the bins a couple times per year. Found a VF+ silver Sixpence last time out.

Do not go. The epidemic is far worse now in most parts of the country than 10 months ago when places went into lockdown to try and control it.

@tdziemia, Of course, I am not going to there at all! Just that I know a guy who might have coins that probably are priced cheaper than what I bought. Honestly, I am surprised to see that the coin show is out on this Sunday when the pandemic is still raging on. Thank you for your kind words!
