My first 1973s penny and is this a usual thing with the 9?

The 9 looks like post mint damage to me. The coin took a hit at some point.

No problem! I'm also fairly new to the hobby so I am still learning as well. This is definitely the place for it. Also, just a heads up, it's standard procedure to include a full photo of both the obverse and the reverse of your coin in addition to close ups of any areas you think have something on them.

All digits looks like it took a hit. Spendable coin, unless you are saving copper.
