A few weeks ago I found a 2004 toonie that turned out to be fake, ended up doing a fairly large one dollar and two dollar hunt and found nothing. Then today I ended up getting this toonie in my change and instantly knew it was one of those fakes. The last one I found was fairly circulated looking but this one looks like it was hardly circulated before finding it. Can a moderator place this in the Canadian Variety and Error section? Sorry about that!

Looks like a fake one... first 2002 I have seen.
PS - it belongs in this sub-forum.

It matches the other 2002 counterfeit that was posted earlier- date, paw, details. Nice photography to show the surface features!

Thank you SPP=Ottawa, I wasn't sure.
coinsnpaper, I saw a post a while back with a bunch of Counterfeits and jotted down which years had the fakes and I have kept a lookout for them. I only found 2 so far but they stick out like a sore thumb, they almost look like a "proof" finish so they are easily found when you have a handful of circulated legit toonies and a random fake mixed in.

To JohnWayne007- Thank you - and all others interested.
I am on the west Coast, in Vancouver. I am interested in seeing how the phoney money spreads across Canada. The last posts (3 separate discussions), saying that full boxes of counterfeits ($1000) are now coming through a commercial coin supply service should be a wake up call. To make the number of varieties that are showing up- 5 dates of $2 (need I say, so far?) and at least 1 of $1 (2012), implies that a large number have been made, and ways of getting them into circulation, or of making money from them, are being searched for.
So far I have found that my bank is not interested, and I could not get anyone from the VPD to respond for a request for information. We shall see how long this continues.
