I just got this coin today in a junk box. The design on the obverse is rather similar to coins from Afghanistan from the mid 20th century, and the date is 1337 (1958). I just can't find a coin similar to this one for Afghanistan in my Krause standard catalog. Does anyone else know of this type of coin or if it is in fact from Afghanistan? Thanks!

scott3270- ah, you are right, there are some rather similar coins from Egypt. But I still am unable to find an exact match. Do you have any idea what the KM# might be?

Not sure if this is helping - but that date looks an awful lot like 1327.

Wrong piece of the Ottoman Empire. Try "Turkey". 10 para, KM# 760.

Though personally, I'd prefer to see all the various pieces of the Empire listed in one place in the catalogues, under "O" for Ottoman.

Sap- ah, now I see. Thanks!

So how do I determine which exact year this coin was minted? I'm just not quite sure how you differentiate between the years AH1327//2 (1910) - AH1327//8 (1916).

HippieOutcast- Same here. :P But I don't see any other Arabic numbers other than the date of 1337.

Well, there is usually the denomination of the coin, and a year. Yours looks like year 4 at a quick glance

I stand corrected, looks like a 6 to me. The year is below the middle of the "obverse" right above the line on the right side of the line.
