I found this steel cent today in my Wheaties and I can't quite capture all the shine with my camera, but it's looking seriously plated. The weight checks out at 2.7, but I don't have a more precise scale available just now. It's got me wondering if some of the other cents from this batch are plated a bit more expertly. Is the weight difference that small that I can't catch it without a better scale?

Too many variables. What did it weight before plating? How much plating was applied? How much plating wore off?

Oh that makes more sense for this one, though. It could be that enough of the plating has worn off that it is close to its original weight.

This doesn't look like a "reprocessed" steel cent. They were plated originally, of course, with zinc that gradually wore off in circulation. This looks pretty natural to my eye.

Coinfrog, the pictures do look more natural, but coin in hand, especially next to the others I have, it looks way too shiny.

Easy to tell if it is plated or not, just look at the edge.

The plating layer is so thin that it hardly adds anything.

I'm with the Frog, my first thought is it doesn't look plated. My second thought is, does it matter?
