hello Scuba1 nice find SIDE NOTE: Quote: Based on Coppercoins data base I believe this is DD0-011. if you refer to coppercoins data, use coppercoins naming standard "1DO-010" or if you use wexlers data, use "WDDO-011". if you dont, you will get people looking at the wrong website. thanks

Thanks levelsofmadnes, I completely see that I messed that one up on my listing. Coppercoins has it on their website as 2019P-1DO-010. I inadvertently just used the Wexler's example of 011 listed next to the Coppercoin listing. Thanks for the correction and bringing that up!

Yep, that definitely "Jumps Out" at you. Too bad about the condition of the reverse

Im like you with shields If it dont jump out after a quick look over, toss it. Worst coins ever made right there. I bought a box of these when this coin was discovered and stopped after 10 rolls and sold the rest. Nice find. Might try some acetone to clean up that reverse a little

Thanks for the replies. Just got home and threw it in some acetone. I have also experimented with mouthwash in the past on some Lincoln's that were beyond repair and have had some pretty good luck with it compared to acetone. DISCLAIMER: I'm not saying to use anything that is not time proven for trying to "freshen up" or dislodge foreign gunk from a Linc..... AND (I'm not yelling...lol), if it's a valuable coin I'd be very careful no matter what. Cleaning coins is not recommended but sometimes in order to see certain details we have no choice but to attempt to remove buildup. The discoloration on the reverse of this Cent looks to be more of a gunk type substance than anything else. We'll see. Thanks!

Not trying to keep this thread going but I thought I'd post the results of a quick cleanup on this Cent. I actually used mouthwash, not acetone on this one as I said earlier, and achieved this result. There wound up being some pretty decent purple toning behind whatever was on this coin. Not that it helped the value that much but at least it looks a whole lot better than when I found it today and in relation to the original reverse pic I posted. Thanks again.

Acetone wouldnt change the color of the copper plating. It looks very discolored like a badly cleaning coin. Acetone would have been much better. Plus you dont want to rub the coin at all.

Acetone is the way to go and I won't disagree with you on that point. I just like to experiment on occasion and I'm not exactly recommending it to others. I have had good results in the past and have never seen any damage to a coin. I immersed the entire coin in the method I used. If this method caused discoloration damage to the reverse then it surely would have caused damage or discoloration to the obverse. I did not rub the coin at all. Here's a pic I just now took of the obverse which shows there is not any discoloration at all. I'm not a chemical scientist but if mouthwash is safe for your teeth and gums...... I don't see how it could damage metal. Just my thoughts with all due respect.

Oh god. Why would you use mouthwash to clean a coin? If you don't have 100% pure acetone just leave the coin alone until you do have it.
Also, teeth and metal are made of completely different things, so "if it's safe for teeth I don't see why it wouldn't be safe for metal" makes no sense at all. Metals are much more reactive in general than enamel. This is like asking "if hydrochloric acid is safe on glass, I don't see why it would be bad for metal"
