I just bought this one on ebay. Date unknown, and I don't guess it much matters. This is one of the (in)famous steel 2 Rupees coins that flaunt the craftsmanship and quality control at the mints in India.

Please tell me this is a Class V doubled die. Pivot point appears to be near the bottom of the coin. Doubling more pronounced at the "R" than the "S."

This looks like a Class I to me, the hand is also clearly doubled. The spread of the doubling is weaker on the S because that letter is closer to the center. When a circular object rotates, a point closer to the edge will move farther than a point closer to the center.

Nice pickup!

I'm not sure on the class, but I do like that very clear doubling.

Not all Indian rupee coins were minted in India.
A few of the mints that made the 2 rupees are as below.

South African Mint in Pretoria
Tower Mint of London in the UK
Moscow Mint in Russia
And the older two rupee coins were by the Seoul Mint in South Korea.

Just saying

Funny, though, that doubled dies in the domestic coinage of the countries cited are rare, but Indian doubled dies seem to be quite common. My guess is that the outsourced coins are higher quality than the ones at the India mints. It takes "talent" to produce an iconic doubled die.

Great.
So by your own admission, you paid more for a coin in dollars (on ebay) and it is only marginally worth more than face value in rupees.

But all jokes aside, one never really knows the whole background of the coins from the subcontinent.
