For me, A is an improvement. Are you using a diffused light source? If not, try it. Larger, high resolution photos would help even more--crop closer to coin; surrounding background takes up a lot of 'useless' pixels, which drives you closer to the coin community image size limit.

You can definitely see better detail in the wheat stalks in sample B. But the obverse looks better in A.

I say B gives a more feel for the coin

I'd say B is clearly sharper - sure does make that carbon spot stand out!

Option A shows the fields a bit better.

I'd go with a mix using Obverse A but Reverse B.

Getting close. Soft (but bright) diffused lighting, close-in crops, large pics at high resolution. Great fun.

I use Photoshop Elements--simple, fast, strong tools. After basic processing I reduce to 900x900 and save as a .jpeg using a factor of anywhere between 6 and 8. Files come in just under the limit of 300mb.

Diffuse lighting removes any cartwheel spokes which makes the luster hard to judge.
