I don't think either the Red Book or the Blue Book is much more than a broad guideline as far as pricing goes, but the Red Book has a wealth of other information.

When I was looking into getting my first simple guide, the BLUE seemed to be geared more toward dealers or toward auction results... I may be wrong....

Well, theoretically the Blue Book shows "prices you can sell at". It's okay for newbies, but pretty useless when you think about it - in this day and age, there are just so many better valuation options (auction results, ebay, etc.).
