Everything is in the title. The coin is very rare, but I don't find much information about counterfeit coins. I have compared my coin to graded ones (from Stack's Bowers and Heritage), and everything looks ok to me... but maybe you will see if there is anything wrong. Coin weight 14.95, reeded edge, not magnetic (probably old cleaning) I wanted your advice before to submit it to a TPGThank you all

The coin has that mysterious dark gray toning around the devices and lettering that seems to show up on a lot of counterfeit coins with Chinese origins.
Based on just that factor the coin is most likely counterfeit in my eyes.

Impossible to tell from the fuzzy pics whether that's an old scrub job... or a textbook Chinese fake with the typical artificially weathered/toned look. Also, for our convenience, what is the exact date (Western and/or Thai), type, catalog number (preferably Krause)? Would help with any detective work to see if there is a known fake out there (which is kind of "cheating" with Counterfeit Detection... but can still help).

Knowing where you acquired the coin from will help, and how much you paid?

It is from an old friend of mine, bought at a local coins fair a decade ago. Not much more details about the provenance

I cropped and properly oriented your pics to make them easier to view The dark gray toning still makes me think this coin is most likely a counterfeit.

I could test the coin with a spectrometer, and got 97% silver, 2.2%copper Coin should be 90% silver, but would 97% means it's silver plated ? what do you all think ?

Quote: Also, for our convenience, what is the exact date (Western and/or Thai), type, catalog number https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces24455.htmlIn the Numista listing, this can be found: Comments Massively counterfeited for decades, from incorrect details, e.g. non-crowned elephant, to almost excellence silver counterfeit. It is recommended to buy from reliable shops/auction to get a genuine one.If you have a relationship with either Jean Elsen, or CDMA (which look about equally distant from your location), maybe they could advise you, instead of spedning the money on submitting to a TPG?

ibelgica, this is a 1908 baht, very rare and goes for $$$$. Send it in to NGC or PCGS, you must. They will let you know if its real or not. On thai facebook, there are people posting fakes ones all the time. You must get it slabbed.

Looks wrong to me - and the spec reading might point to silver plating.
@Westernsky, don't even insinuate that China is a major purveyor of counterfeits, or else gxseries from this forum will slanderously accuse you of being a racist as he did me... without any repercussion.
