1848-O $10 AU55 NGC. Ex. S.S. Republic. Like the S.S. Brother Jonathan, the S.S. Republic sank in 1865, and its subsequent salvage and treasure recovery has redefined the numismatic scene for middle 19th century coinage issues. This piece is a lovely green-gold example with considerable luster over lightly abraded surfaces. No evidence of sea damage is found on these various treasure coins.
Thanks for the post. I am curious about the submission process so that a TPG knows for sure that any coin is from a wreck? There must be special documentation to prove it.
