Hello all,

I know nothing of ancient coins, and I have no idea what this one is. Could you please help me identify its origin?

It seems like its silver, and it weighs 7.46 grams.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much!

yes that's why I took a pic of the side...seemed odd that they would make it this way back in the day.

So its a fake then :(

I'm not an ancient expert either, but I'm just about 100% sure. Athenian tetradrachms are one of the most famous ancient coin types in the world, and are heavily counterfeited as a result. The seam indicates that your coin was cast, not struck.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. This is how we learn, though.

Thanks gents for the good feedback. It seemed odd to me from the getgo. Happy to have a forum where this can be discussed and awareness spread. I'm so sick of all these counterfeit coins...
