 @future. I am pretty sure one of our experts on coins from this part of the world will be along later to give you an ID. IN the meantime, can you please post a photo of the other side, and provide the diameter?

Thanks.... I'm pretty sure it is from Afghanistan during the durrani period, but don't know the date, composition and other details would be helpful.

The diameter is about 3/4 inch

I think I see the date in the lower right just inside the square on your first photo ... AH1275 ?

Thanks for the translation. AH1275 that would make it 1858? not 1700's, do I have that right.

Yes, something like 1858-59. So, maybe too late for the era you were thinking?

Please be patient. I don't know coins from this region, but at least saw the date (like that saying about "even a blind squirrel..."). And I am unsure of the last digit.
