What's the best way to get new unmolested rolls of the 2009 Lincoln cents? I'm not new to collecting Lincoln cents, but typically I haven't been much into the Zincolns. However, I am interested in getting a few (between 2 and 4) rolls of these new ones. My local bank says that they don't and can't get brand new rolls from the Federal Reserve and that all they get are re-wrapped rolls of used pennies. From what I can tell, the mint is not going to sell uncirculated rolls of the new Lincoln cents either. Maybe I'm not going to the right bank. Which banks will order brand new rolls for you, or is there yet another way to get them?

Good question. I was wondering the same thing. I never received a new box of uncirculated cents at any bank. How are dealers selling boxes of 2008 uncirculated cents? Do they have an alternate source?

I sold two boxes of 2008 pennies earlier this year. It all has to do with luck. One of my tellers says that if they get a new box in she will tell me. Otherwise, you need to call and ask (usually they will not understand what you are asking for). As far as I know they can't order new rolls its just whatever gets sent to them. I have found new rolls of coins at Chase, Capital One, Iberia.

Since these will not be available until February, it has not been publicized yet as to how they will be distributed.

I would agree with biokemist6. I would not be surprised if the mint offers the rolls directly like they do the dollars and State Quarters. (Think about it, they may have eliminated a lot of what they were selling, in order to add other items such as cent rolls.)

And the banks are telling you the truth, with the exception of the dollar coins and the most recent State Quarters (they have about a four to five week order window for each) their orders are filled first with circulated coins and then with unc coins if there are no circs available. And sometimes at the armored car rolling centers they will mix the circulated coins in with the new coins as they roll them.

Ah, I wasn't aware that the new pennies would not be available until February. I sort of just assumed that they would start entering circulation by early to mid January.

at the bank I work at it is very rare to get any new cents because we have our own coin machines and we only order from the fed if our own reserve is low, occasionally we will get a new box but its very rare.

I hate not being able to get new coin rolls. It shouldn't be this difficult.

I am sure the Mint will issue UNC rolls of pennies. Am I correct in saying that the first penny will only be minted for three months?

1. I would suspect the Mint will be selling those.
2. Probably by the roll, bag, box, jar, pound or anything else they can sell them as.
3. Someone I know that collects coins gets new rolls all the time from a bank. His wife works there.
4. Other people at coin shows always have rolls of new coins and I ask where they get them. Your kidding is the usual reply. Why would they tell me and loose buisness. Maybe they to are married to someone that works in a bank
5. Either marry a bank person or have your wife get a job there.
6. I'll just watch my change for now.
7. There is a Federal Reserve in the Chicago Downtown area. I wonder if I asked there for some what they would say. Getting in may be a problem though.

So when the 09 pennies are released, will it be all 4 different designs? So if you come across a box of all 09, will it be a mix of these?

No, they won't be mixed. The new cents will be issued every three months.
