I am getting my Christmas bonus tomorrow. Since I work for a Non Profit, it is quite small. I am trying to decide between a 2008 Silver Eagle Proof or the 2007 and 2008 Silver Mint Proof set. Which do you think would be a better investment? Or is there another, better choice?

I'd go for the sets. More coins and a better investment IMO

Not gettin a bonus this year to waste on coins

I am not getting a bonus either since I a not in the "BAIL OUT" loop.
You'll probably do better with the silver proof quarters in the long and short term. Get the Eagle later IMO.

The 2008 Proof Silver Eagle is pushing $75-100 right now because the Mint suspended sales early due to a silver planchet shortage. Sales figures as of Dec 16 were 713,210. I do not have a RedBook handy so I do not quite know how that fits in with historic proof mintages of the Silver Eagles but I imagine that the number is not terribly low and the price is inflated right now due to said early suspension of sales. However, most of the Silver Proof Sets(except 1999 and 2001) have been fairly stagnant in their value so they would not be the best bet for investment purposes either.

With that said, I purchase a Silver Proof Set every year because it is the best possible set to get and it will at least always have its silver value. I just wish I had started that in 1999
I would say go with the proof sets because they will probably at least be worth what you paid but I am not so sure about the Eagle right now based on the actual mintage.

I ordered the 2007 and the 2008 Silver Proof Sets last night. I agree, the Eagle will drop in price next year. Thank you for the advice.
