I've seen a number of coins, 5 and 10-cent silver it seems, with reference to the Doaktown Hoard. What and where was this? Part of the reason for asking is because there's a Doaktown in NB.

There is a reference in the CNA Ebulletin #6, March 10, 2005.

Thanks for the replies. I did check with the person that made the CNA ebulliten reference and he doesn't recall the hoard either. I do see there's a reference to it in two April 2003 Coin World magazines (online snippet via the Newman Numismatic Portal), but I don't know anyone that would have it lying around and Coin World doesn't seem to have an online archive.

Would the RCNA Library have older issues of Coin World available to its members?

Could the hoard be fictional in an attempt to add value to otherwise normal coins?
I wouldn't put it past someone.

The hoard is quite real . Information would be available from either Tom Becker or Michael Findlay if you reached out . Remember this was covered in some old issues of Coin World . Access is restricted on NNP though.

A number of years ago, I used to buy quite a few coins from Tom Becker (coin dealer - New Hampshire). I bought approximately 60 coins from him that were attributed to the Doaktown Hoard. My memory is foggy, but I believe that Tom said that the hoard of coins was found in an old house(?), in Doaktown, New Brunswick. Unfortunately, Tom passed away 5+ years ago. Sandy Campbell was close to Tom. Having known Tom well, and his great knowledge of coins and their provenance, I am sure that Sandy would know the Doaktown Hoard history. I haven't talked with him for some time, I miss the coin shows!

I was sad when I heard Tom Becker passed (March 2014). After he semi-retired, he found a niche in Canadian coins. He wrote a number of really good articles and experiences as a coin dealer, for the old Canadian Coin Reference Site (CCRS). Some of his stuff was collected in a 1991 book called "Confessions of a Coin Dealer". It was his article on Canadian nickel dollars, that altered my numismatic passion forever... Tom used to sign his digital articles with a photograph. Apologies for the resolution, this is as good as I can find.

Tom was a great guy with a wicked sense of humor. Never met him in person, but we communicated a few times as I was publishing my first two books. I greatly appreciated his wisdom.
He had me in stitches once about readers who feel the need to contact authors with a list of inconsequential typos in a book (minor misspellings, missing commas, etc.). His explanation started like this....
"Rob - Based only on my experience, nothing brings a writer back down to earth like a jealous reader."
Sorry about the off topic post.

I also remember Tom Becker from the old CCRS and I did buy coins from him in the past. He was a great guy!
