Hello Forum!

I was checking some change I just got as change from a purchase and found this 2015 D Saratoga quarter. It looks like a die clash of the D Guard and basket hilt over Washington's neck over the "Y" and down to the "Q". Please let me know your thoughts on this one.

Thanks!

Ummmm, not sure about that but it looks kinda like blob of glue. Soak it in acetone and see if it comes off.

Took a extreme zoom picture and I don't think it is glue. I can soak it as well to verify.

Looks like I can see rolling lines on the affected area and the 'Y' in Liberty looks thinner. Not sure on this one. (The jury is still out) Make me wonder if it wasn't struck through a bit of thin cladding, that fell off after the strike. (I don't recall this happening before?) I'd keep it safe for now.

You can't soak off, what is part of the coin. Note the rolling lines on that area? That is the original surface. As I mentioned I feel something was on the planchet, when the coin was struck. And now it is no longer there. Thus the rolling lines on that area.

Yes I did and they aren't all parallel to each other, looks more like scratches, maybe from someone trying to clean that area.

Sorry Coop and Rothery I was out of pocket yesterday.

I did soak the coin in acetone and nothing changed. New image uploaded.

It maybe a thin piece of cladding peeled from the coin. Is the color red? It doesn't look like that in the image.

Took two other pics (Obverse & Reverse) I think you can see the bottom of the hilt just above the Q.
