Greetings!

I have an ANACS 1960 PF67 nickel that is listed DDR. I am guessing from the label that it was graded years ago. However, in PCGS, NGC, and a couple of error/varieties sites I only find references to QDR.

Any thoughts or experiences with variety grades in the past decade with DDR's or QDRs? Is QDR a newer designation? Could there be a DDR that simply has lower population or interest that other TPG's and markets ignore? Could ANACS simply be wrong?

Any help appreciated. Images follow...

Stay well,
Diy89Nurm7

Possible doubled/triple/quad die?
DDO doubled die obverse
TDO tripled die obverse
QDO quadrupled die obverse
Not sure if it applies or not, but a possibility.

Often with QDR's and TDR's, the validity of the Quadrupling and/or tripling is different from person to person. It is possible that ANACS doesn't care about differentiating DDs TDs and QDs as well.

First, Wexler/Ribar list 45 different DDRs for the 1960 nickels, most are just doubled. Since ANACS didn't specify which it was, it could be any of them.

Most people don't differentiate DDR from TDR and QDR because the attribution is the same regardless: DDR-XXX. TDR and QDR are usually side notes. And as TCD pointed out, there can be disagreement between experts on exactly how many misaligned hubbings any given die got. And I'll add that for some dies tripling and quadrupling is only visible in the early die states as die use wears down the lettering and design elements.

The devices may not all be same. Some doubled, some tripled. Depending on the devices. Curved devices will show it better.

Diy89Nurm7, please don't upload pictures of screens. 90% of the time they are worthless and just take up space on the servers. Thank you.
