The edge reads, "PAYABLE AT THE GLASS WAREHOUSE OF W•ABSOLON" with a "•x•" between the beginning and end of this legend.
William Absolon was a renowned artist who worked in ceramics and glass. Much of what his workshop produced was sold as souvenirs for the tourist trade. Other pieces were high end presentation items. In either case, surviving examples of his output are today highly valued.
